Selection of fruits for pomegranate compote

Compote of pomegranate seeds for the winter can be prepared from pomegranate fruits of any variety: from sweet pomegranates with white, pink, or yellow grains, and from sweet and sour fruits with red and burgundy grains. Varieties with large grains of bright red and dark burgundy color are preferred. Compote made from such fruits has a bright and rich color and taste.

When choosing fruits for preparing compote, you must consider:

Preparing glassware for canning pomegranate compote for the winter

At home, preparing pomegranate compote for the winter without sterilization begins with preparing the jars.

If canning without twisting is intended, jars with screw caps known as “twist-off” are used. For compote with a twist, you need special seaming devices - tin lids and a manual seaming machine.

Glassware is washed well with hot water and sterilized with hot steam. You can use a water bath or a kitchen kettle. To do this, the jar is placed on the spout of a teapot, half filled with water. In this position, the kettle is brought to a boil and the inside of the jar is treated with hot steam for 10-15 minutes. Next, carefully remove the sterilized jar and place it upside down on a dry cloth. The lids are immersed in hot water and kept there until use.

The next stage is preparing pomegranate seeds for compote.

Note that upon contact with the peel and seeds of pomegranate fruits, dark, difficult to remove stains remain on the hands and nails for a long time. Therefore, the fruit processing procedure must be carried out using thin rubber gloves.

Pomegranate fruits prepared for compote must be washed, then carefully cut off the crown and lower part. Then the pomegranate peel is slightly cut down from the crown area in a circular manner and the fruit is broken along the resulting cut with a little force. This is done to ensure that the grains inside the pomegranate are not damaged, then all the grains are gradually freed from the internal films and carefully selected into a clean container. After this, the grains are washed several times under the tap and the water is allowed to drain. Intergrain films and peels, which are a medicinal product, can be dried for future use. The prepared pomegranate seeds are poured into a jar along with granulated sugar and carefully poured boiling water to the top.

To prepare the compote, you can use another method: prepare the syrup for 5 minutes by boiling water and granulated sugar dissolved in it, and pour it over the pomegranate seeds poured into the prepared jar. Those who limit the sugar content in their diet are advised to use sweeteners intended for canning.

Next, screw the lid on the jar well, after which it is turned over and left to cool, covered with a towel. To increase the tightness of the jar, wrap a strip of stationery tape around its neck. Until winter, the compote is stored in a place inaccessible to light and heat.

A few tips for preparing pomegranate compote for the winter

  • If you add a little lemon zest to the compote, its taste will become more intense.
  • Pomegranate fruits are fragrant and original in taste, so there is no need to use spices. On the contrary, pomegranate itself is an excellent addition to other compotes, and it is enough to use 50 g (0.5 cups) of pomegranate seeds per liter of compote.
  • Compote with pomegranate has a peculiar astringent taste. Fruits such as apple, quince, feijoa allow you to diversify the taste of the compote.

Pomegranate is one of the healthiest and most valuable fruits. It is a storehouse of vitamins and microelements. Pomegranate juice is especially useful. For the first time, residents of Central Asia began to use it. There, a legend arose that this fruit can replace the blood of wounded soldiers on the battlefield, and that only pomegranate juice can restore strength after a serious illness. Modern housewives can pamper their household members with a drink at any time. The ideal option is freshly prepared juice. You can do it yourself.

Pomegranate is one of the healthiest and most valuable fruits

It is more convenient to prepare any juice using electrical appliances, such as a juicer. But not pomegranate. You can prepare it yourself.

You will need:

  • several large pomegranates;
  • hammer;
  • sharp knife;
  • dry wipes;
  • capacity.

Squeezing juice is easy:

  1. Take grenades. Wrap in food grade cellophane (to prevent splashes).
  2. Tap the fruit on all sides with a hammer. After this procedure, a row of the top grains will become soft.
  3. Next, carefully mash each fruit with your hands (do everything carefully so that the peel does not burst).
  4. Use a sharp knife to make two or three holes (not far from each other).
  5. Survive juice through holes above container.

The juice is ready, it will take just a few minutes to prepare. This method does not require a grenade press. Some of it can be consumed immediately, but if you get a lot of juice, you should keep in mind that it can be stored fresh for no more than a day.

Have you ever had to cook pomegranate compote? How have you never heard of this? Although, to be honest, I also only recently found out about it.
It was my best friend’s name day and as a drink on the table there was a jug with a pink-colored drink, which, whoever tried it, added more to their glass. There was a lively debate at the table about what kind of compote this was. There were a lot of ideas, but the right answer never came. The birthday girl simply burst out laughing at how everyone unanimously and controversially tried to guess about the miracle drink. She had no idea that pomegranate compote, a recipe with a photo of which I now offer you, could cause so many contradictions. When the matter reached a dead end, and a reward had already been offered to the one who guessed what this compote consisted of, a friend decided to simplify the problem and brought a fruit bowl to the table, on which lay only one fruit - pomegranates. That's when everyone burst into hysterical laughter. The answer made itself known, or rather, a friend presented it.
